Real Window Treatment Problems With Real Solutions [Video]

When it comes time to decorate your home, it can be a fun and involved process. Very involved. Matching colors, fabrics, and textures throughout a living space can be difficult if you’re not familiar with the process. Thankfully, interior decorators can take most of the guesswork and drudgery out of the ordeal, and let you focus on the more enjoyable elements of renovating an interior space.

As window treatment professionals, we frequently receive calls from interior decorators who require a little help finding just the right way to set off some windows. This time around, the call came from Dee Ann Allen, a popular interior decorator in western North Carolina whose newest client had some windows that needed something special.

The Problem

The big issue was the sheer amount of sunlight coming into the living room in the afternoon. Bright sun can heat a room beyond comfortable limits, and can be blinding or distracting when trying to watch television or enjoy time with friends or family.

The Solution

With help from Dee Ann, we came up with an answer that solved the problem and kept to the décor. We made custom drapery panels and valances to match the rest of the room, then added solar shades. The solar shades keep the sun out, but still let the homeowners look out onto their yard. For maximum light blockage, the owners can pull the drapes shut as well.

For the rest of the home, we used a similar layout as the living room, so all the windows in the home would maintain the same theme. Valances and solar shades were put into bedrooms, for soft lighting and to make a comfortable sleeping area. The great room also received woven shades to maintain the feeling of the décor, and leant an air of coziness and added privacy.

All in all, the home turned out beautiful, and Dee Ann did an excellent job all around. We were glad to play our small part in the process of transforming this magnificent house into a warm and welcoming home.
